Why did my Windows Default Audio Devices change?Updated 9 months ago

Windows Default Audio Devices can change due to a number of reasons. This is often how Windows handles new or updated devices:

1. Driver updates - Often times if Windows installs a new version of a driver for an audio device it will make that updated device the default. This also occurs when updating GPU drivers as the HDMI port on the graphics card also carries audio and creates an audio device in windows.
2. Device unplugged/plugged back in - This can occur if a device is disconnected from the machine and reconnected.
3. Device is suspended due to sleep and comes back from sleep. Windows will usually assign the first device active to default.
