What does "Refurbished" mean at BEACN?
For a small company like us, it's not possible to perform a battery of tests or replace individual components on a returned product, so we take a practical approach to moving a product into our refurbished stock.
If the product box has not been opened at all (we check the seals etc.), it will be returned to new stock.
Everything else goes through the following steps:
- The product is visually inspected. We exclude products with obvious scratches, dents, or any other notable damage.
- Next, we look at the cables.
- Are the cables still wrapped? If so, we leave them as is.
- If they are unwrapped, we either replace them with new cables or re-wrap the existing cables, depending on how the cables appear.
- Basically if the cables look like they were repacked with care, we'll re-wrap them. If they appear to be treated with less than love, we replace them.
- If there are missing accessories, like USB adapters, we replace them.
- If the accessories are there, we leave them as-is. It's pretty rare for a USB adapter to fail.
- The box is inspected for significant blemishes, dents, tears, or big-ole shipping labels, stuff like that. If the box doesn't look "pretty good" we replace it.
Is the product electronically tested?
In short, no.
While it would be optimal for us to run each and every product through a rigorous testing process, it's simply not feasible. What we've looked at is our product failure rate over our thousands of sold units to determine the risk of someone getting a "bad" or "not working" refurbished unit. That risk statistically is extrememly low.
What happens if the product I receive is not working correctly?
First, DON'T PANIC! We've got you! We'll simply send you another unit at our cost. We may or may not ask you to send back the original unit, depending on the nature of the issue. Sometimes we like to get hold of specific types of failures at our development offices for further investigation, so we'd handle that on a case-by-case basis.
How long is the warranty?
